I was recently awarded the 2013 Favorite Teacher award by Barnes & Noble. This award is chosen through a student essay contest. Upon hearing the news, I was completely humbled by such an award and feel truly blessed and fortunate to teach and know the student that nominated me. She is an incredible artist with an amazing eye for composition. Not only in the art room has she excelled, but she has a servants heart, loves God, and strives to do her best in all areas of her life. She is graduating this year and I can’t wait to hear of all the wonderful things she accomplishes in her next venture in life.

I am reminded of how God purposely places specific young artists and individuals in our lives for a reason. What an honor it is to be a teacher and share our knowledge and passion with young minds. What an amazing opportunity it is to teach and share in such a role as this.

I know that I may come across many more students similar to this student in my teaching career – however  none will replace the special place in my heart this student has taken with her gentle and kind soul, generosity, and awestruck creativeness.
